What is GDPR?
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a new privacy law in European that goes into effect on May 25, 2018. It shall replace the EU Data Protection Directive, also known as Directive 95/46/EC, and will force a single data protection law throughout Europe.
The new data law governs the way that businesses collect, use and share data about individuals. It also requires businesses to process personal data fair and lawfully, allowing individuals to exercise legal rights when it comes to their own data and forces security measures to protect the personal data the business processes. Parkos has taken all necessary steps to ensure its compliance with the GDPR by the 25th of May 2018.
Who does the GDPR apply to?
The GDPR applies to all businesses and individuals based in the EU and to organisations and individuals, whether or not based in the EU, that process personal data of EU individuals. Personal data is any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person.
What is the role of Parkos under GDPR?
Parkos acts as both a data processor and a data controller under the GDPR.
- Parkos as a data processor: When customers use our products and services to process EU personal data, we act as a data processor. For example, we will be the processor of EU personal data and information when a EU customer books a parking space via our website.
- Parkos as a data controller: We act as a data controller for EU customer data and information we collect to provide our products and services and to provide customer support. This customer information can include information such as the customer name and contact information.
What has Parkos done to comply with GDPR?
Over the past months we have conducted analysis of our operation to make sure we fully comply with the GDPR. We did this with the help of our external advisors from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) who have also been reviewing everything that Parkos already does to ensure it complies with the requirements of the new GDPR.
What personal data do we collect and store from our customers?
The data we store is data customers have given us voluntarily. We may collect and store contact information, such as name, email address, phone number, or travel data, when customers book a parking space or contact our customer support. We also may collect other identifying information from our customers, such as an IP address for external services.
What is the Parkos Data Processing Agreement (DPA)?
Organisations that process EU personal data are required to comply with the privacy and security measures under the GDPR. As part of this, they must be sure that the vendors they work with, that process the EU personal data, also have the necessary privacy and security protections in place. Our DPA outlines the privacy and security protections we have in place.
